Training invite email: Telling a story of a CSL campaign
-
This long, sentimental email about a great community campaign converted to RSVPs 50% worse than the short email.Clodagh,
I'd like to tell you a story about two mums, the Hunter Valley, and Scott Morrison. And then, I'd like to offer you an opportunity.
Local Hunter Valley mums Carly and Fiona usually meet up to go on bike rides together, or take their kids for play dates. But when Scott Morrison announced his plan to pour $600m of public money into a dirty gas plant in their backyards, they met up to protest instead. 1
Carly and Fiona knew they needed to act, but they were just two people. So they started a petition with GetUp's Campaigns by Me platform, and shared it persistently with locals - and we sent their campaign out to all GetUp members in NSW.
Now with 10,000 people behind them, they've made a powerful submission to the NSW Government, protested at the Minister for Planning's office, and lined up a meeting with Environment Minister Matt Kean. 2
What looked like an easy win for the fossil fuel industry and the Morrison Government now faces a massive, organised groundswell of local backlash - because of Carly and Fiona's decision to start their campaign.
What keeps you up at night, Clodagh? What injustice? What threat to your local environment? What dream do you have for the future of your family, friends, neighbours and the place you call home?
When we band together, act smart, and use the right campaigning tools, we become a powerful force for progressive change in our own communities. Now GetUp is offering the skills, with your chance to train up as a local campaigner like Carly and Fiona. Come along to our online campaign training session and you'll hear from experts on how to plan a winning strategy, raise the heat on local decision makers, and use Campaigns by Me to lead your own campaign.

This email which is cute in tone and introduces the platform also performed worse than the short one - picking up 35% less RSVPs.Hi Clodagh,
GetUp members have started over 30 inspiring community campaigns since Campaigns by Me launched last week. It's a fantastic start!
To name a few:
♻️ Bronwyn is fighting to end single-use plastic in the Blue Mountains.
Barry is campaigning to stop the exploitation of hospitality workers.
Catriona is calling for better pedestrian safety in her local area.
Campaigns by Me is a new community petition platform powered by GetUp where anyone can start campaigns on issues they care about — just like Bronywn, Barry and Catriona have.
You don't need any special skills or experience to get started, just a passion to change something for the better in your local area, community or even nationwide.
GetUp is running a Campaigns by Me Crash Course on Thursday 10 December for GetUp members and friends to learn the basics of running a successful campaign.
It's a great training for anyone who has an idea for a campaign already or who is just interested in learning more about what's involved. It covers everything from how to craft a compelling petition, through to growing your signatures, and building enough pressure to create change.

In this interactive training, you’ll learn how to identify, build, and win your own grassroots campaign using GetUp’s new Campaigns by Me platform. This is a great session for anyone who’s keen to skill up — whether you’re new to campaigning or you've been involved in campaigns before.
Here are the details:
What: Campaigns by Me Crash Course
When: Tomorrow, Tuesday 29 June at 7-8.30pm (TAS, VIC, NSW, ACT, QLD), 5-6.30pm (WA), 6.30-8pm (SA, NT)

Don’t worry if nothing comes to mind — we’ll have plenty of time to workshop ideas together. By joining tomorrow's training, you’re equipping yourself and your community with skills to help shape a more just, fair, and flourishing world.
We’ll look at excellent case studies and go through all the ingredients of running a successful grassroots campaign, including:
What makes a good campaign
The art of crafting a compelling petition
Growing your supporter base
Why and when to email your supporters
Building pressure by organising events
Making local media your best friend
Meeting with your decision maker
